My life has gone to the dogs!
My life has gone to the dogs! I fell in love with Basset hounds when our granddaughter, Sierra, was home for a visit. It was Christmas time and she had many wants to share with her Grandma, who was always asking her, “What do you want for Christmas?” Sierra said she wanted a “Lou Dog.” I wasn’t quite sure what a “Lou Dog” was, so Sierra was thrilled when her uncle helped find her “Lou Dog.”
They brought the puppy home… and it was then that we were introduced to “Lou,” the Basset Hound with long velvet-soft ears, short stubby legs that added a noble strut to his walk, and sad eyes that guaranteed him… he would get his way.
It was only a short time later, well… about 24 hours, that I was mesmerized with Lou, and quickly became "Basset Crazed." Because my granddaughter's parents were stationed in Italy for the next three years, Lou will be staying at my house but he remains in Sierra's heart and will always be her dog.
As my love for Lou grew, I began to look for yet another Basset. By this time I had convinced my husband that it would add great joy to my life… if I could breed Bassets.
Shortly thereafter, we added two new females to the family, Annie and Lexi. As I waited for them to mature for breeding, my passion for the Basset had spread throughout the house. There’s no doubt, and my family will tell you it’s true… my life has gone to the dogs!
Most recently, Alex, our stud, was added to the Mesaros Basset Family. Alex has championship lines, and I greatly anticipate seeing the puppies that they will produce.
My grand daughter is looking forward to adding two Basset Hounds to her life, one from Annie’s and one from Lexi’s litters. Her dad was a little surprised to hear there would be two Bassets joining their family.
